First Login
Veldtrack runs entirely in your browser. Your farm data lives in the cloud so you can access it from any device.
Open the app
Navigate to your Veldtrack URL. You'll see the login screen with the Veldtrack logo and two tabs: Login and Register.
Create an account
Tap Register, enter a username (letters, numbers, _ - . only) and a password of at least 6 characters. The backend URL is pre-filled — leave it as-is unless you're hosting your own Worker.
✓ Up to 10 accounts per farm — useful for sharing access with farm workers or familyYou're in
You'll land on the map view with an empty farm. The sidebar on the left holds all your tabs. The map fills the rest of the screen. On mobile the sidebar slides below the map.
✓ Your session is remembered — you stay logged in on the same deviceMap Toolbar
The dark pill at the bottom of the map is your main toolbar. Every map action lives here.
Border Snapping
When the magnet is green (active), new camp vertices automatically snap to nearby existing borders. This creates perfectly shared boundaries between adjacent camps — no gaps or overlaps. Keep it on while drawing.
Live Location
Tap the crosshairs button to show your real-time GPS position as a pulsing blue dot. On good GPS signal outdoors, accuracy is 3–10 metres. The AI also uses this to tell you which camp you're currently in.
Drawing Camps
Camps (paddocks/kampe) are the core of Veldtrack. Draw them once and the app tracks everything inside them.
Start drawing
Tap the ⬠ Trace Camp button in the toolbar (or the Trace button in the Camps tab). The toolbar changes to show Undo, Cancel, and Finish buttons at the top of the map.
Click to place vertices
Click (or tap on mobile) to place each corner of your camp. Work your way around the boundary. You don't need to close the polygon — just click Finish when done.
✓ Use the satellite imagery to trace along actual fence lines↺ Made a mistake? Click Undo to remove the last vertex
Snap shared borders
When drawing a camp adjacent to an existing one, your cursor will snap (jump) to vertices and edges of existing camps when you get within ~30px. The green dot shows the snap point. Click there to create a perfectly shared border.
Name and configure
After finishing, a dialog asks for the camp name, type (Grazing / Wild / Crops), and optional crop type. You can also set feed status and water source from the camp card in the sidebar.
Edit camp details
Find your camp in the Camps tab. Each card shows area (hectares), stocking rate, feed status, and water source. Tap the edit icon to update any detail. Tap the map icon to zoom to that camp.
Camp area is calculated automatically
Veldtrack computes the exact area in hectares using your drawn polygon. The stocking rate (head/ha) updates live as you move herds in and out. No manual measurement needed.
Managing Herds
A herd is a group of animals that move together. Each herd lives in a camp at any given time.
Place a herd on the map
Tap 🐄 Drop Herd in the toolbar, then tap anywhere on the map. If you tap inside a camp, the herd automatically snaps to that camp. Give it a name.
✓ Multiple herds in the same camp stack vertically so none are hiddenAdd animals to a herd
In the Herds tab, open a herd card and tap Animals. You can add animals in two ways: Batch (e.g. 12 Adult Cattle) or Individual with a specific tag/ID number.
Move a herd
Two ways: drag the herd marker on the map (it follows your cursor into whichever camp you drop it in), or use the Move to dropdown in the herd card. Both log the move in the activity log.
Track days in camp
The orange clock icon on each herd card shows how many days that herd has been in its current camp. The colour changes from muted (0–7 days) to gold (7–14 days) to red (14+ days).
⚠ Red means 14+ days — consider rotationTransfer animals between herds
Open a herd's Animals view, select an animal or batch, and use the transfer option to move them to another herd. The move is logged with the exact count and both herd names.
Placing Pins
Pins mark physical infrastructure on your farm — bakke, water points, gates, and anything else worth noting.
Place a pin
Tap the pin type in the toolbar, then tap the map where you want to place it. A dialog asks for a name and optional notes. The pin appears immediately.
Gates snap to fences
When placing a gate, it automatically snaps to the nearest camp border within 200m. When you drag a gate, it snaps back to the nearest fence line. The icon rotates to align with the fence direction.
Link feed bags to a bak
Tap a 🌾 Bak pin on the map. The popup shows linked feed bags and their remaining quantities. Use the dropdown to link a bag, or tap ✕ to unlink. Create feed bags in the Infra tab first.
✓ The AI tracks which camps have animals but no bak, and which bakke have no animalsDrag to reposition
All pins are draggable. Press and hold then drag to move a pin. Changes save automatically after you release.
Planning Tab
The pencil tab holds your calendar, task board, and farm notebook — everything that isn't on the map.
Calendar
Monthly view. Days with tasks are highlighted. Tap a date to see what's scheduled that day.
Tasks
Add tasks with a title, category (Livestock, Pasture, Infra, Admin), priority, due date, and notes. Tasks appear in your AI weekly report for the coming week.
Farm Notes
A free-form notebook. Write plans, observations, vet records — anything. Auto-saves as you type. The AI reads your notes for context.
Tasks feed the AI report
Any task due in the next 7 days automatically appears in the weekly AI report under "Scheduled Tasks". Mark tasks done directly from the task board — the checkmark is logged in your activity history.
AI Features
The AI knows your entire farm — camp layout, herd locations, pin positions, activity log, and notes. It reports facts; it doesn't give unsolicited advice.
AI Chat (Stats tab)
Open the Stats tab and find the AI chat section. Ask anything about your farm: "Which camps have animals but no water point?", "Where is the north bak relative to the dam?", "Which herd has been in camp the longest?"
Weekly Report (Ops tab)
Every Saturday at 16:00 SAST, the AI generates a factual farm report. You can also trigger it manually. The report covers: week's activity, herd status, camp & feed status, scheduled tasks, and key stats. Export as PDF from the Ops tab.
✓ The report never includes advice — it's a factual record, not a consultantSpatial questions
The AI knows exact distances and bearings between every pin and camp. Ask "which camp is the east gate in?" or "how far is the bak from the water point?" and it will give compass direction and distance in metres.
Your location
If live location is active, the AI knows which camp you're standing in. "What camp am I in?" will return the camp name, type, area, and who's grazing there.
AI Provider
Veldtrack uses Puter.js by default — free AI via Gemini or GPT, no API key needed. You can switch to your own Anthropic or OpenAI key in the AI Config section of the Stats tab for higher quality responses.
Your Data is Safe
Veldtrack uses four layers of data protection to make sure you never lose farm records.
Auto-save
Every change saves to the cloud within 2 seconds. You'll see "✓ Saved" in the top bar. Works on any connection.
Emergency copy
Every save also writes a local backup to your browser. If the cloud fails, you'll load from this copy automatically.
Daily backups
At 10pm SAST every day, a full backup is saved both locally and to the cloud. Each backup keeps for 7 days.
JSON download
Download your entire farm as a JSON file at any time from the Ops tab. Keep it on a hard drive for permanent offline records.
View and restore backups
Open the Ops tab and find the Backups card. It lists all available snapshots with dates. Tap Restore next to any backup, type RESTORE to confirm, and your farm rolls back to that point.
⚠ Restore replaces all current data. Download a JSON first if unsure.Activity log
Every meaningful action is logged: herds moved, animals added or removed, camps created, pins placed. View it in the Ops tab. The log persists in your cloud data.
Offline mode
If you lose connectivity in the field, Veldtrack keeps working. Changes save locally and sync automatically when you're back online. You'll see "⚠ Offline" in the top bar while disconnected.
Quick Tips
Search bar
The search bar at the top of the sidebar filters camps, herds, animals, tags, roads, and infra across all tabs simultaneously.
Layer toggles
The gold buttons in the toolbar toggle camps, pins, roads, and herds on/off. On mobile they appear as a vertical bar on the right side of the map.
Edit camp shapes
The edit button (top-left of map, from the Draw toolbar) lets you drag existing camp vertices to reshape a paddock after it's been drawn.
Road forking
Tap a road on the map, then select Fork to branch a new track from any existing node. Useful for mapping internal farm tracks that split off a main road.
Install on mobile
Add Veldtrack to your home screen for a full-screen native app experience. On iOS: Share → Add to Home Screen. On Android: tap the install prompt.
Weather tab
The Weather tab shows live conditions at your farm location, plus a log of your own rainfall observations. Log rain manually to build a seasonal record.
